Although commonly associated with special education and the federal mandate that students with disabilities be educated in the least restrictive environment (LRE) to the maximum extent appropriate, Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences practices an inclusive educational model which goes beyond the needs of students with disabilities to frame a system of accessible instruction and positive behavior supports generating positive outcomes for all students in the general education environment. The emphasis on school-wide (systemic) implementation of inclusion is critical to our school’s Mission, Vision, and Beliefs. Inclusion is not solely the job of any one educator, classroom, or service provider; the successful creation of inclusive settings begins at the school and district level and in developing partnerships with students, families, and the greater community.
